Sponsor fine forced ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’ off air — Frank Edoho

Veteran TV host Frank Edoho has revealed that the Nigerian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire ended after its major sponsor withdrew funding following a heavy government fine.

Speaking on the KK Show, Edoho said the sponsor, which supported the program for about a decade, could no longer sustain the show after being penalized by the Federal Government.

He explained that the financial burden from the sanction forced the company to prioritize its obligations, leading to the withdrawal of sponsorship.

“They told us they couldn’t continue because they had to pay an incredible sum to the Federal Government,” Edoho said.

The popular quiz show, which ran for over a decade, went off air in 2017 after its sponsor pulled out, bringing an end to one of Nigeria’s most successful television programs.
