Sultan distances self from Tinubu re-election rumours

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has denied claims that he endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027, insisting he does not support any candidate.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Bashir Adefaka, the monarch described reports circulating on social media as false and misleading.

The Sultan said it would be inappropriate for him, as a traditional and religious leader, to take sides in partisan politics.

“As the father of all, it is not possible for the Sultan to support one candidate over others, either publicly or privately,” the statement said.

He added that the reports were a deliberate attempt to drag him into political matters for selfish interests, stressing that he remains open to all Nigerians regardless of political affiliation.

The Sultan reaffirmed his commitment to neutrality and national unity, noting that he will continue to engage with citizens without discrimination.
