Nigerian singer Tems has made history as her song What You Need becomes the longest-charting solo song by an African artist on the US Billboard Hot 100, with 30 weeks on the chart.
The song surpassed the previous record of 29 weeks held by South African singer Tyla’s Water and Nigerian singer CKay’s Love Nwantiti.
Released in November 2025 as part of her Love Is a Kingdom EP, What You Need peaked at No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100. Its sustained performance has been driven largely by radio airplay.
The milestone adds to Tems’ growing success in the US market, where the singer has earned multiple Billboard chart entries.
However, the latest chart data I found lists the song at No. 29 with 30 weeks on the chart, rather than No. 33.
