Former Galatasaray striker Ümit Karan has hailed Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen, describing him as the “father of the Turkish Super Lig” following his selfless gesture in Galatasaray’s 4-0 victory over Konyaspor.

Osimhen scored the opening goal in Friday’s league encounter before allowing teammate Rafael Leão to take a second-half penalty, which the Portuguese forward converted to complete the victory.
Reacting to the gesture, Karan praised the Nigerian striker for putting his teammate’s success ahead of his personal goal-scoring record.
“Going for the top of the goal-scoring charts, giving the ball to Leão is a true display of character. For a striker, that is the hardest thing to do,” Karan said, according to ENO Sports.
“He could have scored his 10th goal, but instead said, ‘Let my friend get one too.’ These are the actions that make a team champions.
“I sincerely congratulate Osimhen once again. I applaud him, the father of this league,” he added.
Osimhen opened the scoring in the 12th minute, while Yunus Akgün and Aleksey Batrakov also found the net before Leão converted the 55th-minute penalty.
The victory helped Galatasaray maintain their position at the top of the Turkish Super Lig table with 25 points from 10 matches.
