Heavy rainfall has triggered flash floods across four Local Government Areas in Yobe State, leaving many families homeless and damaging properties, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has said.
In a situation report released on Sunday, SEMA said torrential downpours led to sudden flooding in parts of Damaturu, Nguru, Machina, and Bursari LGAs, following multiple distress calls from residents, security agencies, and local authorities.
Affected communities in Damaturu include Moduri, Abbari Sabon Kwalta, Malari Sabon Kwalta, Pompomari, Sumsumma, and Nayinawa. In Nguru, areas impacted include New Side, Best Center, Balanguwa Road, and several communities across nine wards.
Other affected locations are Turbangini and Dinani/Lawanti Ward in Bursari, as well as Alhaji Madi Street, Hausari, and parts of Machina town in Machina LGA.
SEMA said the list reflects only verified reports, noting that more communities may be affected as assessments continue.
“Preliminary findings show that many homes have been damaged to varying degrees, but the number of displaced persons and casualties is still being determined,” the agency said.
The agency added that detailed assessments would guide relief efforts and urged residents to take precautions during the rainy season, including avoiding flood-prone areas and limiting movement during heavy rainfall.
