The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has dismissed a security officer, Daniel Stephen, over allegations that he helped Aichatou Assabe El-Rufai gain unauthorized access to her husband, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, while he was in custody.
According to the report, Stephen was caught on CCTV allegedly assisting Assabe to enter the ICPC premises on July 5, 2026, without following approved visitor procedures.
The officer reportedly admitted in a handwritten statement that he drove her into the premises and escorted her through a back entrance to meet El-Rufai.
He was said to have acknowledged that his actions breached the commission’s security procedures, leading to his dismissal.
The report also alleged that Stephen admitted assisting another person, identified as El-Rufai’s brother, to gain access to the facility through the same route.
El-Rufai has been in ICPC custody since February 19 after his release by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He is facing charges of money laundering and conversion of public property, which he denies.
