Amaechi: Atiku Will Restore Electricity Subsidy

Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi says Atiku Abubakar will restore electricity subsidies if elected president in 2027.

Amaechi, the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said this during ward visits in Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State on Thursday.

He said the removal of electricity subsidies had significantly increased consumers’ bills, using his personal experience as an example.

“My house electricity bill was ₦500,000; now I pay ₦4 million,” Amaechi said, adding that Atiku would restore subsidies and reduce electricity costs.

Amaechi also blamed the removal of petrol subsidies and worsening insecurity for rising transportation and food prices.

His comments come as the Federal Government plans to gradually phase out electricity subsidies from 2027, while maintaining that there is no immediate plan to increase electricity tariffs.
