PDP Crisis: Abdulrahman-Led NWC Fixes National Convention for March 28

The Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that the party’s National Convention will hold on March 28 and 29, 2026, in Abuja.

The decision comes after a recent court judgment that reaffirmed the Abdulrahman-led leadership as the legitimate leadership of the party. Following the ruling, the group said it has officially taken over the management of the PDP’s affairs.

The announcement was made in a communiqué issued after the 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, held on Monday in Abuja. The document was signed by Caretaker National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, and Caretaker National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

According to the communiqué, the National Convention is expected to produce a new National Working Committee and help end the leadership crisis that has affected the party for several months.

To ensure a smooth process, the NEC approved a timetable for party congresses nationwide. Ward and Local Government Congresses will be held in February 2026, while State Congresses are scheduled for March 2026.

The NEC also directed the National Caretaker Committee to immediately set up Convention Sub-Committees and begin preparations to ensure the convention is transparent and credible.

The committee reaffirmed that the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Caretaker Committee is the only legally recognised national leadership of the PDP. To avoid any leadership gaps, the NEC extended the tenure of all caretaker committees at both state and zonal levels.

The party welcomed the recent judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, which confirmed the current leadership arrangement. It also stated that decisions taken at the earlier 104th Emergency NEC meeting remain valid and binding.

Speaking at the meeting, Abdulrahman Mohammed said the party had overcome a period of uncertainty caused by legal disputes. He added that the PDP has emerged stronger and is now ready to focus on internal democracy and rebuilding the party.

With the court issues resolved, the PDP leadership said it is now focused on completing all pending congresses and organising a successful national convention in line with the party’s constitution.
