Abuja Court Jails Gana’s Spy for 40 Years

The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Sunday Frank to 40 years’ imprisonment for spying for the late Benue bandit leader, Terwase Akwaza, popularly known as Gana.

Frank, from Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, was convicted after pleading guilty to providing information to Gana about the movements of security operatives.

He was among defendants prosecuted by the Federal Government under the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022.

According to the prosecution, Frank also faced allegations of kidnapping a man identified as Samuel in 2022 and holding him until a ₦40,000 ransom was paid. However, the three counts he denied were struck out by the court after the prosecution applied for their withdrawal.

Delivering judgment on Thursday, Justice Hawa Yilwa sentenced Frank to 40 years in prison, effective from the date of his arrest. The court also ordered him to undergo rehabilitation after completing his sentence.

The case is part of the ongoing mass trial of terrorism suspects in Abuja.
