Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers are attempting to prevent him from entering Osun State as voters head to the polls for Saturday’s governorship election.
Davido raised the alarm in a post on his verified X account early Saturday, saying he had been “reliably informed” that soldiers were trying to stop him from entering the state.
He argued that every Nigerian has the right to freedom of movement.
The allegation comes amid security measures for the election, including restrictions on movement across the state. The measures are intended to prevent interference and maintain peace during the poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Osun governorship election for August 15, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking a second term on the platform of the Accord Party.
Davido, who is Adeleke’s nephew, has openly campaigned for the governor’s re-election and was recently seen supporting his uncle’s campaign.
Reacting to the singer’s claim, former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad described Davido’s reaction as “dramatic.” He argued that the movement restrictions were part of standard election security measures and were not targeted at the singer.
Ahmad said the restriction on movement should not be interpreted as a denial of citizens’ constitutional rights, noting that security agencies had announced the measures ahead of the election.
Davido’s allegation has since sparked debate online, with some users questioning whether the security measures were being selectively applied, while others said the singer could simply be affected by the wider election-day restrictions.
