Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has revived the President Muhammadu Buhari Estate in Abeokuta, transforming the stalled housing project into a 108-unit residential community.
The estate, located along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, is scheduled for commissioning on Tuesday by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.
The project, which dates back to the administration of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, was inherited by Abiodun’s administration in an incomplete state. Earlier reports showed that the estate had faced delays and construction challenges before the current administration resumed work on it.
Abiodun said his administration resolved a legal dispute surrounding the project out of court and adopted a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to complete the development. Under the arrangement, the state provided the land and infrastructure, while private developers handled the construction and sale of the housing units.
The completed estate comprises four-bedroom fully detached and semi-detached duplexes, supported by internal roads, street lighting, landscaped areas, water supply, waste management facilities, a sports center, children’s playground, clubhouse, power supply, parking, and security infrastructure.
The governor said the project demonstrated his administration’s commitment to protecting public assets and completing inherited projects rather than allowing them to become abandoned.
“This project is part of our administration’s commitment to providing quality and affordable housing for different categories of residents, while ensuring that government projects inherited from previous administrations were completed rather than abandoned,” Abiodun said.
The estate is strategically located near the Ogun State Judiciary Complex and Ogun TechHub, with access to major roads and other key facilities in Abeokuta.
The development also reflects Ogun’s growing use of public-private partnerships to expand housing delivery. In 2023, Abiodun said the estate was being developed under a PPP arrangement, with government providing land and infrastructure while private developers constructed and marketed the homes.
The completion marks the latest phase in the revival of a project that had remained stalled for years, turning an inherited housing liability into a completed residential development.
