Man Faces Trial Over Alleged Threat to Leak Governor’s Nude Images

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Sanusi Dankaka at Kuje Correctional Centre over allegations that he threatened to publish nude videos and photographs of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Facebook.

Justice Salim Ibrahim issued the order on Monday after the Department of State Services (DSS) arraigned Dankaka on two counts of alleged cybercrime.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The DSS alleged that Dankaka and other individuals still at large used his Facebook account, Sanusi Dankaka Yahaya, to threaten to release the governor’s purported nude images and videos.

The prosecution claimed the alleged publication was intended to cause annoyance, insult and injury to the governor, in violation of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended.

Following the defendant’s plea, DSS counsel Yusuf Afegbua asked the court to remand him in custody pending trial. Defence counsel Kauna Penzin did not oppose the request.

Justice Ibrahim adjourned the case until December 7 for trial and ordered that Dankaka remain in custody.

The allegations have not been proven in court, and Dankaka pleaded not guilty to the charges.
