Resident doctors at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, have begun an indefinite strike over unpaid allowances and salary arrears.
The industrial action, declared by the Association of Resident Doctors, LASUTH, commenced at 8am on Friday, September 11, 2026.
The doctors are demanding the payment of specialist allowance to Grade Level 14 resident doctors, particularly Senior Registrars 1, as well as outstanding salary and advancement arrears.
They are also demanding payment of 25 months’ arrears from the revised Professional Allowance Table, which took effect in July 2024.
The strike followed an earlier three-day warning strike in June and a seven-day ultimatum issued to the Lagos State Government in August over the unresolved issues.
The doctors said they appreciated the government’s payment of the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund and implementation of the revised allowance table but maintained that key welfare issues remained unresolved.
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, has backed the LASUTH doctors and urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the state government to urgently resolve the dispute. NARD said the continued disagreement could disrupt healthcare delivery at the hospital.
The doctors have also demanded a detailed breakdown of their salary components, citing discrepancies in recent payments.
They said the strike would continue until the outstanding issues are addressed.
