Nigeria’s Falconets will face England on Thursday in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, with a quarter-final place at stake.
The Falconets booked their knockout-stage ticket with a record 10-1 victory over New Caledonia in their final Group F match on Sunday.
The win lifted Moses Aduku’s side to second place in the group with four points, behind Spain. Nigeria had earlier lost 2-0 to Spain and played out a goalless draw with China.
England also finished second in Group B after collecting four points from three matches. The Young Lionesses lost 2-1 to Brazil in their final group game but advanced ahead of Canada on team-conduct score after the two sides finished level on all other relevant tiebreakers.
The last-16 tie is scheduled for Thursday, September 17, at 2pm BST in Bielsko-Biała, with the winner advancing to the quarter-finals.
Nigeria, two-time runners-up at the U-20 World Cup, will be hoping their emphatic win over New Caledonia provides the momentum needed to overcome England and continue their title campaign.
