The Kaduna State Government says it has recovered more than 500,000 hectares of farmland previously controlled by bandits over the past three years.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, disclosed this on Sunday during a gala night held for members of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Kaduna.
Maiyaki said improved security had allowed farmers who were previously unable to access their farms to return to the land.
He said the government had combined security operations with community-based initiatives and early-warning systems to improve safety across affected areas.
According to him, the improved security situation has also restored safe movement along the Kaduna-Abuja route, which was previously affected by bandit attacks.
Maiyaki added that the state distributed 500 trucks of free fertilizer to about 150,000 farmers for the 2026 farming season as part of efforts to boost food production.
He also said the number of out-of-school children in the state had dropped from 550,000 to 187,000, while 100 CNG buses purchased in 2025 had transported about 3.5 million people at subsidized fares.
