The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reported one confirmed case of Ebola disease in Nigeria, while a suspected case in Rivers State has tested negative.

The NCDC Director-General, Dr Jide Idris, disclosed this on Sunday during a briefing in Abuja, clarifying that the agency had investigated two cases, but only one had been confirmed.
The confirmed case involves a 42-year-old woman who arrived in Nigeria from Uganda via Addis Ababa on October 3, 2026. She tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus on October 20.
Idris said health authorities had identified 53 primary contacts linked to the confirmed case. The contacts include healthcare workers, household members and others who may have been exposed to the patient.
The NCDC said contact tracing and monitoring were ongoing, with identified contacts to be followed up for 21 days after their last possible exposure.
The agency also urged healthcare facilities to strengthen screening, isolation and infection prevention measures to prevent further transmission.
The NCDC called on Nigerians to cooperate with public health officials and rely on verified information as investigations continue.
