President Bola Tinubu has held talks with governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress as the party moves to resolve controversy surrounding its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council list.
The closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday followed earlier consultations involving APC governors and party leaders over the composition of the campaign council.
The controversy followed the release of the 223-member council last weekend, which drew criticism over the inclusion of some individuals facing corruption-related cases and the alleged exclusion of key party stakeholders.
The council is chaired by Tinubu, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda as vice chairmen. Senator Abdulaziz Yari serves as Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma is the Secretary.
Presidency spokesperson Sunday Dare had earlier said the list had not been withdrawn but could undergo “adjustments where necessary,” stressing that the campaign structure was not yet complete and that additional subcommittees would be created.
Sources said the APC leadership had reviewed the controversial list and that further changes could be announced after consultations with the President. However, the extent of the proposed adjustments was not immediately clear as of Thursday night.
