Akpabio Alleges Paid Social Media Attacks on Tinubu

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has alleged that people criticizing President Bola Tinubu and his supporters on social media are being paid, urging northern youths to mobilize grassroots support for the President’s re-election in 2027.

Akpabio spoke on Wednesday when a northern youth group, Arewa Revival Project, led by its coordinator, Mustafa Ibrahim, visited him at his office and presented him with an award for his contributions to nation-building.

He urged the group to engage young Nigerians at the grassroots and counter what he described as social media propaganda against the administration.

“Most of those who are attacking the President and attacking these young men on social media are being paid. You are not being paid,” he said.

Akpabio defended Tinubu’s economic policies, including the tax reforms, arguing that the administration was working to diversify the economy beyond crude oil.

He also expressed support for the President’s second-term bid, saying the National Assembly had given his administration a pass mark.

On insecurity, the Senate President expressed optimism that state police would soon become a reality, claiming that about 30 state assemblies had endorsed the proposed constitutional amendment to establish decentralised policing.

He said the reform would strengthen security across the country.

Earlier, Ibrahim said the group honoured Akpabio in recognition of his contributions to national development and the achievements of the National Assembly under his leadership.

Akpabio’s remarks come ahead of the 2027 general election, in which Tinubu is expected to seek re-election.
