Cyberstalking: Court Remands Actress Doris Ogala

A Federal High Court in Lagos has remanded Nollywood actress Doris Ogala at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the hearing of her bail application over alleged cyberstalking and attempted extortion of Pastor Chris Okafor.

Doris Ogala was arraigned on three counts before Justice Akintayo Aluko by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation. She pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The prosecution alleged that between September 2024 and March 2026, the actress shared intimate photographs of Okafor without his consent, circulated allegedly false electronic messages and threatened to publish more damaging material unless he compensated her or bought her a house.

Prosecuting counsel, Tolulope Mokolu, said the alleged offences contravened provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024.

Ogala’s defence counsel, N. C. Atulomah, urged the court to grant her bail, assuring the judge that she would attend subsequent proceedings.

However, Justice Aluko ruled that the defence had not provided sufficient grounds for her immediate release. He ordered an accelerated hearing of the bail application and remanded her at Kirikiri pending its determination.

The court adjourned the case until October 30, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application.
