Digital financial services provider OPay has explained how customers can check their eligibility for the Federal Government’s N50,000 relief program, warning them against fraudsters.

The company said eligible customers would receive a pop-up notification on their OPay app homepage, which they should click to follow the next steps.
In a post on its X account on Tuesday, OPay clarified that customers who could not see the notification were not eligible for the intervention.
It added that it had no role in determining beneficiaries, advising customers who needed assistance to contact the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) helpline on 0700-022-2222.
OPay also warned customers against sharing their Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) or One-Time Passwords (OTPs) with anyone claiming to facilitate the payment.
“OPay will never ask for your PIN or OTP to process a NERSI relief payment. Do not pay any agent or click unverified links,” the company said.
Customers can also check their eligibility through the OPay app or by dialling 95520#.
The clarification comes after the Federal Government announced the commencement of its National Emergency Relief and Stabilization Intervention (NERSI), designed to provide financial assistance to vulnerable households.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, announced the program on October 30, saying eligible beneficiaries would receive N50,000 to help meet essential needs and ease the impact of rising living costs.
The ministry said beneficiaries would be selected using verified national identity records and the National Social Register. Selected individuals would receive notifications from approved financial service providers and must give their consent before payment.
The government warned that the program is free, stressing that beneficiaries do not need to apply, pay fees, or register through agents to receive the support.
It urged Nigerians to avoid sharing their PINs, OTPs, or BVNs and to contact the official NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222 to verify suspicious messages.
