The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Victor Edet Yellow Duke, over the attack on the convoy of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi in Calabar.

The incident occurred around 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday at Watt Market Roundabout, while Obi’s convoy was returning from a visit to the palace of the Obong of Calabar.
The convoy was reportedly attacked by suspected hoodlums armed with machetes and sticks, who smashed the windscreens of some vehicles. The exact number of damaged vehicles has yet to be confirmed.
The police said operatives intervened and arrested Duke, while other suspected attackers fled the scene.
The suspect was subsequently transferred to the State Police Headquarters for investigation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, said Commissioner of Police Ajo Geoffrey Ordue had ordered a thorough investigation to identify and arrest others involved in the attack.
The command also cautioned against presuming the suspect’s guilt, stressing that his arrest does not establish culpability.
It added that normalcy had returned to the affected area and assured political parties and their supporters of equal security protection across the state.
The attack occurred as Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, was in Calabar for the party’s presidential town hall meeting.
