Zenith Bank Plc has announced that its customers can now use Google Pay to make contactless payments in stores and complete purchases online and through supported mobile applications.

The new service allows eligible cardholders to add their Zenith Bank cards to Google Wallet and pay by tapping compatible smartphones on participating contactless payment terminals, without presenting a physical card. Customers can also make supported online and in-app purchases without repeatedly entering their card details.
The bank said the development would make everyday transactions more convenient while strengthening the security of digital payments.
Google Pay uses tokenisation technology, which replaces a customer’s actual card number with a digital token during transactions. This helps protect sensitive payment information and reduces the exposure of actual card details.
Building on a legacy of innovation
Zenith Bank said the launch builds on its history of technology-driven banking services aimed at improving customer experience.
In 2007, the bank opened what it described as Nigeria’s first ATM gallery, a branch without human tellers that provided customers with access to cash, including on weekends and public holidays.
The initiative offered an alternative to conventional banking, where customers often had to endure long queues to access basic services.
The bank said its latest digital payment offering reflects its continued commitment to simplifying banking through technology.
The Group Managing Director/CEO of Zenith Bank Plc, Dame Dr. Adaora Umeoji, OON, described the development as “digitally forward,” highlighting the importance of embracing technology to improve banking services.

She also pointed to the bank’s upcoming Zenith Bank Tech Fair 2026, scheduled for November 5, which will hold under the theme Future Forward 6.0.
The event is expected to further advance discussions around technology, innovation and the future of digital services.
How customers can get started
Eligible Zenith Bank cardholders can access the service by opening Google Wallet on a compatible device, selecting the option to add a payment card and completing the required verification process.
Once activated, the card can be used at participating contactless payment terminals and supported online and in-app checkout points.
The service is subject to card eligibility, device compatibility and merchant acceptance.
Zenith Bank said it would continue investing in technology, operational efficiency and customer-focused innovations to meet the changing needs of individuals and businesses.
