‘Your Excuses Can’t Light Homes’ — Atiku Tells Tinubu

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Tinubu over persistent power outages in Nigeria, accusing his administration of offering excuses instead of addressing the electricity crisis.

Atiku, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, said Nigerians were tired of government explanations while homes and businesses continued to suffer unreliable electricity supply.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Senior Media Aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said, “Tinubu’s electricity excuses cannot light a single home. Nigerians need light, not excuses.”

He also faulted the electricity tariff system, arguing that consumers continued to pay high bills despite poor power supply.

Atiku specifically questioned the Federal Government’s plan to phase out electricity subsidies from 2027, asking how the decision would affect consumers’ bills.

He said the government must explain how it intends to protect households and businesses from additional financial pressure when the subsidy regime ends.

Atiku urged the Tinubu administration to stop politicizing the power crisis and prioritize reliable electricity supply across the country.
