President Bola Tinubu has signed the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, extending the implementation of the 2025 budget from September 30 to December 31, 2026.
The amendment was passed by the Senate and House of Representatives on Tuesday, September 29, before being transmitted to the President for assent.
According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the extension will give Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) additional time to complete ongoing capital projects and utilize funds already appropriated.
The Presidency said the move is intended to ensure that critical government programs are not disrupted and that ongoing projects receive the necessary funding to reach completion.
The latest extension is the fourth adjustment to the implementation deadline of the 2025 capital budget. The deadline was previously moved from December 31, 2025, to March 31, 2026, then to June 30 and September 30.
Tinubu commended the National Assembly for its swift consideration of the amendment, describing the passage as a sign of cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government.
