Three passengers remain in captivity after suspected bandits attacked a commercial bus along the Jos–Kano highway in Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Kano State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday by its spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to police, the attack occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, when a Toyota Hiace bus travelling from Jos to Kano was ambushed at the Folgore Forest axis in Doguwa LGA.
Five armed suspects reportedly blocked the road, attacked the vehicle, and abducted 13 of the 20 passengers on board.
Police operatives were deployed immediately after receiving a distress call and engaged the attackers in a gun battle. Nine victims were rescued during the operation, while one additional passenger later escaped.
However, three passengers, one male and two females, are still being held by the attackers.
All rescued victims were taken to Doguwa General Hospital and are said to be in stable condition.
Police say efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining captives and arrest the suspects, with additional tactical teams deployed and intelligence operations intensified.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised residents for providing timely information and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
