The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to present the council’s Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, within 48 hours.
The directive was issued on Monday during a resumed hearing into the PFIPC, which lawmakers suspect may be an illegal government agency.
The committee said Adeyemi’s appearance is necessary to clarify the council’s legal status, establishment, and operations. Lawmakers fixed Wednesday for his appearance, stressing that his testimony is key to determining the agency’s legitimacy.
The PFIPC has drawn public scrutiny following corruption allegations made by Adeyemi against the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, over budget-related issues. In response, President Bola Tinubu directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the matter.
Adeyemi is currently in police custody after being arrested in Osun State on charges of alleged forgery and impersonation, following a Federal High Court warrant.
The controversy has raised broader concerns about how the PFIPC allegedly appeared in the federal budget, secured office space in the Federal Secretariat, and operated accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria despite questions over its legal standing.
