Sokoto Steps Up Fight Against Banditry, Targets IDP Return

Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu says his administration has adopted a more robust strategy to tackle banditry and enable internally displaced persons (IDPs) to return to their communities.

Aliyu disclosed this on Thursday while opening the eighth regular meeting of the State Executive Council in Sokoto.

He said collaboration with security agencies had led to increased operations against bandits, the rescue of kidnapped victims, and the recovery of thousands of rustled livestock in Rabah, Tureta, and Kebbe local government areas.

“We are recording tremendous improvement in our fight against banditry in the state, and we will not relent until we make the state safer,” the governor said.

Aliyu said the deployment of armored vehicles and other operational equipment would further strengthen security operations, particularly in rural communities affected by banditry.

The state government has recently provided 62 armored vehicles and other security equipment to agencies operating across Sokoto.

The governor also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies as the government continues efforts to restore lasting peace and allow displaced communities to return home.

The latest announcement comes days after the state government said security operations had contributed to the rescue of 153 kidnapped victims between 2024 and September 2026.
