Shettima Commissions Roads, Launches 230 Transport Vehicles in Katsina

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has commissioned 11.2 kilometres of roads and launched 230 mass transit vehicles in Katsina State as part of efforts by Governor Radda’s administration to improve infrastructure and public transportation.

The projects were unveiled on Sunday, October 4, 2026, during Shettima’s one-day official visit to the state.

The roads include the dualised 4.8-kilometre Kofar Sauri–Central Mosque Roundabout Road, the 2.4-kilometre Central Police Station Junction–Kofar Kaura Underpass Road and the newly constructed four-kilometre Filin Polo–Ring Road.

The Vice-President also launched 30 compressed natural gas (CNG) hybrid buses and 200 electric tricycles to improve public transport and provide residents with additional mobility options. The state government plans to expand its electric tricycle fleet to 500.

Governor Radda said the road projects form part of a wider urban renewal programme covering Katsina metropolis, Daura and Funtua. He added that more than 240 kilometres of urban and rural roads had been covered across the state.

At another event, Shettima flagged off the Community Investment Fund under the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up, with more than 40,000 women expected to receive business capital to expand their enterprises and improve household incomes.

The program has expanded to all 34 local government areas following the state government’s commitment to match World Bank funding. According to the state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs, more than 2,393 Women Affinity Groups had been established in Katsina and Daura, with collective savings exceeding ₦310 million.

The Vice-President also received new members into the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a political gathering at the Government House in Katsina. The defectors reportedly included former members of the APC and other political parties, as well as serving lawmakers.

Shettima commended Governor Radda’s administration and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the state.

The visit featured government officials, lawmakers, development partners and political stakeholders, with activities focused on infrastructure, transportation, women’s economic empowerment and party membership.
