Governor Radda Ends Katsina Health Workers’ Strike

Health workers in Katsina State have suspended their seven-day warning strike after Governor Dikko Umaru Radda pledged to address their outstanding welfare demands.

The Assembly of Health Care Professionals (AHCP) announced the suspension following a meeting with the Governor on October 16. The decision took effect at midnight on October 18, with members directed to resume full clinical and administrative services across health facilities.

The strike, which began on October 14, was triggered by disagreements over the implementation of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS), salary adjustments and professional allowances.

According to the assembly’s chairman, Ibrahim A. Balange, the government agreed to reopen negotiations through a Technical Roundtable, review CONHESS implementation and address outstanding hazard, call-duty and shift-duty allowances.

The government also pledged to resolve the CONHESS 10 skipping issue affecting eligible officers and establish a joint technical committee with defined responsibilities and timelines.

The assembly said it suspended the strike after considering the government’s commitments, while reaffirming its determination to protect members’ welfare and professional interests.

Attention now shifts to the implementation of the agreements to ensure a lasting resolution of the dispute.
