Senior Legislative Aide to Senator Shehu Buba Umar, Abba Aliyu Tilde, has resigned from his position, citing a breakdown in mutual respect, communication, and trust in his relationship with the Bauchi South senator.
Tilde announced his resignation in a letter dated September 6, 2026, saying it was effective immediately.
The resignation comes as Buba faces renewed allegations of links to banditry and terrorism. The senator has denied the allegations, describing them as fabricated and politically motivated.
The controversy followed the circulation of videos and claims on social media alleging that suspected bandit leaders visited Buba’s residence. Buba said the videos were manipulated and has disclosed that he took legal action against those behind the allegations.
However, Tilde did not link his resignation to the allegations against his principal.
Instead, he cited repeated instances of being ignored and what he described as a lack of recognition for his role.
He specifically referred to a recent visit by Buba to his ward, where the senator met with residents without informing him beforehand.
Tilde said the incident, along with other experiences, made it difficult for him to continue working effectively with the senator.
He said he believed a working relationship should be built on “mutual respect, communication, trust, and recognition of one another’s roles,” adding that he no longer felt those principles existed between them.
Tilde described his resignation as the “most honorable decision” and thanked Buba for the opportunity to serve as his senior legislative aide.
He wished the senator success in his future endeavors.
