Security operatives have arrested a suspected informant accused of supplying information to bandits operating around Romo community in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The suspect, identified as Ashiru Abubakar from Gumfa Gebe village in Wamakko LGA, was allegedly linked to criminal elements operating in Tambuwal.
Abubakar was reportedly connected to a threat issued to residents of Romo, who were allegedly given an ultimatum to pay N10 million or face an attack.
The arrest comes amid renewed security concerns in Tambuwal and neighboring communities following recent attacks and kidnappings.
Confirming the arrest on Wednesday, Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ahmed Rufai said the suspect had been charged to court.
Rufai said the arrest followed investigations into Abubakar’s alleged activities and links to criminal elements.
He added that the command would continue to take action against individuals suspected of aiding criminal activities in the state.
Residents in affected communities have continued to call for increased security presence and improved intelligence operations to prevent further attacks and support the return of displaced residents.
