The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC, has cleared the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, of involvement in the activities of the purported agency.
The committee said its preliminary findings showed that the PFIPC was not lawfully established and that several documents used to give it official recognition were allegedly forged or altered.
The panel said a purported appointment letter naming Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi as the agency’s Director-General was not issued or signed by Gbajabiamila or the Presidency.
It also uncovered a purported Presidential Executive Order and a document presented as an Act of the National Assembly, both of which it said were not authentic.
The committee further identified alleged institutional lapses that allowed the organisation to gain official recognition and occupy office space at the Federal Secretariat.
It said preliminary investigations linked Adeyemi to 58 bank accounts and 12 agencies and entities, while an alleged ₦400 million transaction is also under investigation.
The lawmakers stressed that the findings were preliminary and did not amount to a determination of criminal guilt.
The committee said it would conclude its investigation before submitting its final report, which is expected to recommend possible administrative, civil and criminal actions where evidence is established.
