The Labour Party (LP) has received more than 1,000 defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other political parties in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The defectors were received into the party in Orokam District on Wednesday, amid ongoing political realignments across Ogbadibo ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking on behalf of the new members, former ADC House of Assembly aspirant, E.E. Justice, said they joined the LP because of its commitment to inclusive leadership, development and grassroots participation.
Justice also cited the leadership and representation of the member representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, Philip Agbese, as a factor in their decision.
Some of the defectors publicly discarded symbols of their former parties before receiving LP flags and membership materials.
The Benue LP Chairman, Williams Ochonu Okefie, and the party’s Ogbadibo chairman, Peter Enejor, welcomed the new members and assured them of equal opportunities.
Agbese urged the defectors to work with existing members to strengthen the party at the grassroots, assuring them that there would be no discrimination between old and new members.
