A human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, has raised fresh security concerns in Delta State, warning that members of a notorious kidnapping gang remain active in forest areas despite the recent arrest of their leader, Abubakar Usman.
Usman, a wanted bandit, was apprehended through a joint effort involving Gwamnishu and operatives of the Delta State Police Command. However, Gwamnishu disclosed on Saturday via X that the operation is far from over, as other members of the gang are still at large.
According to him, intelligence reports indicate that the remaining suspects are heavily armed and may attempt to regroup and continue kidnapping activities. He further revealed that the fugitives are disguising themselves as cattle herders to evade detection.
Gwamnishu urged residents of Ogwashi-Uku, Ubulu-Unor, Ubulu-Uku, Igbodo, Ute-Ogbeje, and Obior to remain vigilant and security-conscious, stressing the importance of reporting suspicious movements to security agencies.
“The arrest of Abubakar Usman is a major breakthrough, but his gang members are still in the forests, armed and dangerous,” he said. “They are moving with cattle to avoid suspicion. Community vigilance and timely information are key to preventing further attacks.”
