Lagos Shuts Ejigbo Fire Station After Attacks on Firefighters

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has indefinitely shut its Ejigbo Fire Station following alleged repeated attacks on its personnel on October 13 and 16, 2026.

The Service said the first incident was reported to the Ejigbo Police Station, but the alleged attackers returned on Friday and assaulted firefighters again, disrupting operations despite police intervention.

Controller-General of the Service, Margaret Abimbola Adeseye, said the closure was necessary to protect personnel and firefighting equipment, warning that attacks on emergency responders could delay interventions and endanger lives.

She said personnel and equipment at the station would be temporarily relocated to an undisclosed location while the security concerns were addressed. The Service said it would maintain emergency response operations in the affected area.

Adeseye called on security agencies to conduct an impartial investigation and ensure that anyone found responsible faces appropriate legal action.
