Obidients Warn Wike Over 2027 Election Interference

The Obidient Movement has warned FCT Minister Nyesom Wike against interfering with the 2027 general elections following his declaration that he would coordinate President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign in the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the movement urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure free, fair, and credible elections.

Wike reportedly declared himself the field commander of Tinubu’s re-election campaign in the two territories on Monday, saying he would oversee political operations there.

Reacting, the movement said coordinating a political campaign did not give any politician control over voters or the electoral process. It insisted that election outcomes must reflect the will of the electorate.

The group urged Wike and other political actors to campaign for their preferred candidates and allow Nigerians to decide through the ballot box.

It also called on INEC and security agencies to remain impartial and urged citizens to monitor the electoral process, document irregularities, and report credible evidence of malpractice.

The movement warned that any attempt to manipulate the elections should attract legal consequences, regardless of the political status of those involved.
