The Lagos State Government has paid over ₦3.1 billion in compensation to more than 300 property owners affected by land acquisitions for public infrastructure projects.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the payment during a presentation ceremony in Lagos on Monday, describing it as a legal and moral obligation of the government.
He said the compensation reflects the administration’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and respect for citizens’ rights under the Land Use Act.
“This is not charity but justice. It is the rightful entitlement of those whose properties were acquired for public use,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu explained that all claims went through verification processes, including enumeration, valuation, and title checks, to ensure only legitimate beneficiaries were paid.
He noted that the acquired lands would be used for roads, schools, and other infrastructure aimed at improving residents’ quality of life.
While acknowledging the impact on affected individuals, the governor thanked them for their cooperation and urged beneficiaries to use the funds wisely.
Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat also commended residents for their patience, while the Permanent Secretary of the Lands Bureau, Kamal Olowosago, said the exercise demonstrates the government’s consistency in fulfilling its obligations.
He added that the compensation follows a similar exercise conducted in December 2024 and highlights the state’s commitment to transparency and accountability in land administration.
