The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the implementation of new tariff amendments and fiscal policy measures approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for 2026.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Customs spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada said the changes are aimed at boosting local industry, facilitating legitimate trade, and improving the country’s tariff system.
The updated measures include revisions to the Import Adjustment Tax list, National List, Import and Export Prohibition Lists, and goods subject to excise duty. A new Green Tax surcharge will also apply to vehicles with engine capacities of 2,000 cc and above.
The reforms align with the ECOWAS Common External Tariff framework for 2022–2027 and are designed to strengthen trade regulation and economic competitiveness.
The NCS urged importers, exporters, manufacturers, and licensed agents to review the updated tariff schedules and comply with the new guidelines.
