Marvel Studios has announced British actor David Jonsson as the new Black Panther, confirming his lead role in the upcoming film Black Panther III, set for release on December 15, 2028.
The announcement was made during Marvel’s Comic-Con presentation on Saturday. Jonsson, known for his roles in HBO’s Industry and the 2025 film The Long Walk, will portray the son of T’Challa, continuing the legacy of the iconic Wakandan hero.
The original Black Panther was played by Chadwick Boseman, who rose to global fame with the 2018 film Black Panther before his death in 2020 at age 43.
Speaking to fans, Jonsson expressed appreciation for joining the franchise, saying he was “honored” to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Director Ryan Coogler, who helmed the first two films, will return for the third installment. He revealed the story will follow T’Challa’s son as he comes of age and takes on the Black Panther mantle.
The first Black Panther film was a major commercial success, earning $1.3 billion worldwide and becoming a cultural milestone.
