A commercial bus conductor has been arrested for allegedly stabbing an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) during a traffic enforcement operation at Ile-Epo Market along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

The incident occurred on Monday after a LASTMA team stopped a Volkswagen commercial bus for allegedly causing obstruction in the busy corridor. Authorities said the driver resisted arrest, while the conductor, identified as Lekan Olasunkanmi, reportedly attacked an officer with a screwdriver during the confrontation.
The injured officer was rushed to a nearby hospital and is said to be responding to treatment.
Police at the Abattoir Division have taken the suspect into custody. During initial questioning, he reportedly admitted to wielding the screwdriver but claimed the stabbing was accidental.
LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki condemned the attack, describing it as unacceptable and warning that violence against traffic officials will not be tolerated.
He urged motorists and transport operators to comply with traffic laws and respect enforcement officers, stressing that cooperation is essential for maintaining order on Lagos roads.
