Police in Ondo State have arrested two suspected kidnappers after a 55-year-old man, Idowu Alade, escaped from his captors’ hideout in a forest in Ose Local Government Area.
Alade was abducted around 6 p.m. on August 21 at Aroge Camp, via Idoani, while on his way to buy a recharge card. His community began searching for him the following morning after he failed to return home.
According to the police, Alade escaped around 4 a.m. on August 23 while his captors were asleep. He trekked through the forest and later emerged in the Ifira area, where security operatives found and rescued him. He was subsequently taken for medical treatment.
Ondo State Police spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh said the search involved police operatives, the Amotekun Corps, Ose Bravers Vigilante Group, and local hunters.
Following the escape, a red alert was placed across the area. A patrol team from the Isua Division later arrested two suspects, identified as 25-year-old Usman Shaibu and 27-year-old Sanni Musa, at about 2:15 p.m. on August 23.
Police said Alade positively identified the suspects during a formal identification process, while his mobile phone was recovered from them. The suspects allegedly confessed to the crime and provided information about other suspected accomplices, including one reportedly based in Auchi.
The suspects and case file are expected to be transferred to the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad for further investigation.
The police urged residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to help prevent and detect crime.
