A political disagreement involving former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and his successor, Governor Uba Sani, has sparked a public feud between two of El-Rufai’s sons, Bashir and Bello.
Bashir El-Rufai, in a series of social media posts, accused his elder brother, Bello, of abandoning the family during the political dispute between their father and Governor Sani.
Bello, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, had maintained a close political relationship with Sani and previously described the governor as his mentor.
However, Bashir accused him of returning to the family’s political camp only after his relationship with the governor became strained. He also made several personal allegations against his brother in the posts.
The dispute comes amid the prolonged rift between Nasir El-Rufai and Sani, who were once close political allies.
Their relationship deteriorated after Governor Sani said his administration inherited significant debts and liabilities from the previous government, claims that have been strongly contested by El-Rufai and his supporters.
While Bashir has consistently criticised Sani’s administration, Bello had largely stayed out of the public exchanges and maintained his relationship with the governor.
Bashir’s latest outburst has now brought the political disagreement into the El-Rufai family, exposing a growing public divide between the two brothers.
