Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has opened up about the childhood dream behind her collaboration with former One Direction member Zayn Malik.
The Nigerian singer featured Malik on “Heaven Baby,” one of the 16 tracks on her latest album, Starrgirl, released on August 14.
Speaking about the collaboration, Starr recalled being a One Direction fan during her school days and writing the group’s lyrics in her notebooks.
She said working with Malik once seemed like an impossible dream, making the collaboration a full-circle moment in her career.
Starr also revealed that she met Malik during the filming of the song’s music video, describing the experience as surreal.
“Being able to have a song with someone like Zayn Malik is something that I dreamt about,” she said, encouraging young people to keep pursuing their dreams regardless of how distant they may seem.
The collaboration is part of Starrgirl, which also features Wizkid, Rema, Leon Thomas, Danny Ocean, Kwn, and Theodora.
