Rudeboy Explains Why Fans No Longer Faint for Musicians

Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy and formerly of the music duo P-Square, has blamed social media for reducing the mystique and prestige once associated with music stars.

Speaking in a recent interview with Lun Lifestyle TV, the singer said constant exposure to artistes on platforms such as TikTok has made fans less excited about seeing them in person.

Rudeboy argued that before social media became widespread, musicians maintained an air of mystery, with fans mainly seeing them in music videos or during live performances.

He said the trend has also affected the value of music videos, which he believes are becoming a waste of money because artistes are now constantly visible online.

“The reason you don’t see people faint for artistes anymore is because they see them on TikTok every day dancing and promoting your music,” he said.

The Reason With Me crooner acknowledged that social media has brought positive changes to the music industry but warned that excessive exposure has led to what Nigerians describe as “see-finish”.

He said fans now routinely see artistes’ private moments, including how they eat, cry and socialise, making them appear less distant and extraordinary.

Rudeboy added that the culture of posting content daily has made it difficult for musicians to restore the mystery that once surrounded their careers.
