Cameroon head coach Valentine Nguélé has admitted Nigeria are clear favorites ahead of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) quarter-final showdown.
The Super Falcons booked their place in the last eight with a dominant 6–2 win over Egypt in their final Group C match, while Cameroon advanced as Group D winners.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Nguélé praised Nigeria’s pedigree, noting their record as the tournament’s most successful side.
“Nigeria is a very formidable footballing nation. They are the favorites with ten titles. We will encourage our players to enjoy the experience,” she said.
Despite acknowledging the challenge, the Cameroon coach expressed optimism about her team’s mindset.
“The girls are prepared and positive. Reaching the quarter-finals is already a bonus for us. What happens next is in God’s hands,” she added.
Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses will be aiming to upset the defending champions and secure a semi-final spot, while Nigeria looks to continue their title defence after bouncing back from a group-stage setback with a convincing victory over Egypt.
Beyond a place in the semi-finals, the match carries added significance, as all four semi-finalists will automatically qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
