Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has urged Nigeria to develop more attacking options and reduce its reliance on Victor Osimhen.
Martins said the Super Eagles need healthy competition among their forwards, recalling how he competed with Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Osaze Odemwingie and Julius Aghahowa during his playing days.
Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, Martins said competition helped push players to perform and should also be encouraged in the current team.
He also defended Osimhen’s on-field behaviour, insisting the Galatasaray striker’s passion should not be mistaken for a bad attitude.
“You cannot keep him quiet. I think that is what keeps him going,” Martins said.
Osimhen has scored 35 goals for Nigeria and is two goals away from equalling Rashidi Yekini’s record of 37 as the Super Eagles’ all-time leading scorer.
