“I Lived a Fake Life” – Timini Egbuson on Borrowing to Impress

Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has revealed that he once relied on loans to sustain a flashy lifestyle driven by luxury spending and social pressure.

Speaking on a recent episode of the MENtality Podcast, the actor said he previously spent heavily on fashion and personal indulgences, including building a perfume collection of about 150 bottles. He noted that, in hindsight, those expenses could have been invested more wisely, such as in real estate.

Egbuson said his perspective has since shifted, stressing that personal happiness matters more than keeping up appearances or acquiring luxury items for validation.

“There will always be a newer watch or car,” he said, adding that people should question whether their spending is driven by genuine desire or peer pressure.

The actor also acknowledged experiencing financial struggles despite outward appearances, noting that he has learned to remain grounded regardless of circumstances.

“I used to live a fake life and borrowed to impress people, but not anymore,” he said.

Egbuson’s comments add to growing conversations among celebrities about financial discipline and the pressures of maintaining a public image.
