Explosion Wipes Out ISWAP Bomb Cell in Borno

At least five suspected bomb-making experts linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have been killed in a premature explosion in Borno State.

The incident occurred in Jubilaram, about 29 kilometres east of Monguno, while the group was reportedly assembling improvised explosive devices (IEDs), according to security sources.

Those killed include Usman Dan Fulani, identified as a medical officer within the group, alongside two foreign nationals believed to be IED technicians and two other suspected bomb specialists.

Preliminary intelligence indicates the militants were preparing explosives for attacks along key military supply routes in the Sector 1 area under Operation HADIN KAI.

Security analysts say the loss of the bomb-making cell could temporarily disrupt ISWAP’s ability to carry out roadside attacks along the Marte–Monguno axis.

Military authorities have since ordered intensified patrols and offensive operations across Monguno, Marte, and Gamboru Ngala to prevent regrouping by insurgents.

Security operations remain ongoing as officials work to verify details of the incident and sustain pressure on terrorist hideouts.
