The organisers of the The Headies have confirmed that the 18th edition of the awards will be staged in Canada, marking another international outing for the ceremony.
The announcement was made during an event tagged “The Big Announcement” held at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, where the awards’ founder, Ayo Animashaun, explained that the decision was largely influenced by financial considerations.
According to him, hosting the event outside Nigeria provides a more viable funding model for sustaining the awards.
He disclosed that while the main ceremony will take place in Toronto, there will be a simultaneous viewing event in Lagos to enable fans in Nigeria to participate and follow proceedings in real time.
The Headies had previously been held outside Nigeria in 2022 when the 15th edition took place in Atlanta, before returning to Lagos for its 17th outing in 2025.
