Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has said he has never been a strong advocate for marriage, arguing that women bear more of the responsibilities and challenges associated with the union.

Arukwe made the remarks during an interview on the In My Opinion podcast, where he discussed societal expectations around marriage and the pressure on women to settle down and have children.
The actor cited pregnancy, childbirth, taking their husbands’ surnames and other family responsibilities as factors shaping his views.
He also observed that society is increasingly recognising that a woman’s worth is not determined by her marital status, noting that more women are choosing different paths, including opting not to have children.
“Marriage doesn’t define or make a woman,” he said, reflecting on how societal attitudes towards marriage and motherhood have changed over the years.
Arukwe, who is married to Barbara Boyd-Arukwe and has two daughters, made the comments while responding to a question about whether society places too much emphasis on marriage for women.
